The New WordPress 3.0 Release And What It Means For You
Posted on 20. Jun, 2010 by Vince Cianci in Blogging, Wordpress
WordPress 3.0, the thirteenth major release of WordPress and the result 6 months work by 218 contributors is finally here. Funnily enough this post is also my first with this 3.0 release! Great timing yeah
WordPress are reporting a staggering1,217 bug fixes which makes me think just how bad previous versions were! I have zero coding and/or API devlopment skills so in my mind the last versions of WordPress were just perfect for me.
Currently after playing around in the dashboard I cant say I can see many differences at least not immediately. I did notice that I could update the entire list of Plugins with a single click which is just splendid when I logged into my site and found that 13 plugins needed updating.
Updating these plugins took literally 1 click today as opposed to perhaps 10 minutes previously. This will most likely put a smile on everyone’s face. With the amount of plugins on the market today and the amount of updates they go through, this new feature is a god send for many blogger and businesses. (The crowd goes wild). New features of WordPress 3.0 also include Shortlinking. Instead of using third party sites like tinyurl.com or Bit.ly WordPress has this as standard. No more copying long post urls and pasting into TinyUrl.com anymore just for the sake of trying to keep within Twitters 140 character limits.
You can now do this all that the push of the mouse from your own dashboard. Multi Users can now manage mulitple blogs from just the one blog account. WooOHooooO I can just see a stadium full of bloggers cheering right about now.
The biggest visual impact would be without a doubt be the sexy new default theme called Twenty Ten. To see the new theme and learn about all the other new features and options, just watch the official video below.
Be sure to install the current version of WordPress 3.0. Simply log into your blog and use the one click auto installation option. I am sure out of the 1,217 bugs they fixed that a few of those would be related to the security level. Be sure to read my WordPress security post titled How To Protect Your WordPress Blog and implement the 8 steps layed out for you.
Have you installed WordPress 3.0 and been using it for a while? Leave your thoughts & experiences in the comments section below. I would love for you to share your experiences.

Heya Vince,
I have updated to WP 3 on a few of my sites but haven’t yet explored the new features.
In case this helps anyone, I did have a conflict with the popular NextGEN gallery plugin – it prevented me from upgrading to WP3.
I searched around on Forums and found someone experienced problems upgrading other stuff with NextGEN so when I deactivated it, I was able to upgrade to WP3 and then reactivated it. So far so good.
Didn’t realise there was a 1-Click Plugin Update feature but yes, that would be cool as it sometimes seems you’re forever clicking on plugin updates when you manage several sites!
And I have been waiting for a simpler multi-blog feature. The previous one was complex to set up!
